The Future Is Bright

23 Sep

Hello readers! Today I am feeling inspired about all of the great opportunities and experiences that have come my way. In my blog I have kept you up to date with my BCBGeneration marketing internship, but I wanted to document the other fun internships I have been lucky enough to take part in this semester- and I will also tell you how to snag your dream internship!

This semester is the busiest I have ever been! I am a Senior and besides having the stress about what I will be doing after graduation, I have a full plate of exciting things happening! In addition to my awesome internship with BCBGeneration, I am also a public relations assistant at MMA Advertising & PR. At this job I work closely with the head honchos of the public relations business. This is a great position for anyone who wants to learn more about working in an agency setting. I have loved my experience there so far and am eager to learn and grow more!

I also am a public relations intern at Steve LeVine Entertainment. This has been the most amazing experience so far. I have always loved the entertainment industry and in this position I am able to work directly with the fantastic people who are putting on the most exclusive and equisite events around the valley, as well as national events such as fashion shows, concerts, charity events etc. I enjoy every minute I spend working at SLE because I am learning about the industry that I may want to get into come graduation.

I had to save the best for last. This is the job I have had the longest, and the one I hold dear to my heart. I am the assistant to the most fabulous fashion writer in Arizona, Mr. Corbin Chamberlin. I am his go-to girl for all aspects of his life. Whether it is assisting on a photo shoot, setting up meetings in New York, or sitting in with him on amazing interviews. I have to say I am the luckiest girl in the world to be able to work with such great people. Corbin is not only my boss but has grown to be my mentor in business and in life. Ladies listen. If you want to get out into the public relations field, you MUST find a mentor. I promise you it will be the best thing you ever do. Shadow someone that inspires you and take their advice…and don’t forget it.

If you want to land your dream internship, then DO it. Go to whatever lengths you need to show the company that you would be a great asset to them. Do your research and try on as many internships as possible so you can weed out what you don’t like and find your true passion for what you love. I promise you all your hard work will pay off and you will be a better person- and PR expertise because of it!

XOXO

vintage is the new new

16 Sep

Everyone loves a bargain- and you’re just crazy if you don’t. for this post I wanted to share with readers what every good shopper hates doing. I am giving you an inside look of the secret spots I frequent to find different, beautiful- and inexpensive additions to my wardrobe.

Lets start with the basics. We want to find items that are on trend for Fall, right? Luckily, I have an unbelievably fabulous boss who just came back from New York Fashion Week and spilled all the ‘haute” trends. My favorite- the color camel. I am a sucker for nude and I truly thing the combination of nude and black looks amazing on every figure. It is so simple, but oozes with elegance. I just purchased a nude and black cocktail dress from Estilo (a boutique at the Waterfront in Scottsdale) and can not wait to wear it with some extremely high pumps for a fun occasion. Another trend- army green. Its time to let go of your comfort level and step out of the box for fall. Try pairing some rustic ankle boots with a simple dress and an army green jacket. Tres chic!

Now on to where you can find these trends! Of course every department store like Neimans or Saks will be carrying some of these trends, but for those of us on a budget, I may have some delightful alternatives. Ladies and Gentleman, I can’t stress this enough- VINTAGE, VINTAGE, VINTAGE. You would be so surprised with the amazing finds you will come across at thrift stores and hidden vintage shops. My favorite place of all: My Sisters Closet. No…not literally. A great second-hand store located in Scottsdale that carries almost every luxurious brand you can think of, for a fraction of the cost. I walked in just the other day and starring me straight in the face was the most beautiful Birkin I have ever laid my eyes on. I almost put in a job application right then and there to pay off my debt. But luckily, the store is filled with fall trends that have been worn before, which in turn lowers the price dramatically and sends you off with wonderful new outfits, without the guilt!

So there you have it. I spilled my secrets, but I suppose it is fashion karma, no?

The Old is New…

9 Sep

September 7, 2010 marked the first day of my new internship with BCBGeneration. This day was also exciting for all sorority girls on campus who got to welcome their new pledge class at the historic Old Main on Tempe campus. Being a senior, it was a little bit of nostalgia for me as I greeted these new amazing girls into my sorority- as I am also getting ready for a new chapter in my life and incorporating my marketing internship into it as well.

My marketing partner Hillary and I were fortunate enough to be able to promote BCBGeneration on campus during Bid Day by handing out different products to the girls in our sororities. They received post cards that promoted the new Fall 2010 line, as well as receiving some fun retro sunglasses that were vital for our sunny day on campus.

The sunglasses went like hot cakes. We ran out in the first few minutes and girls were asking, “where is my pair?” Hillary and I had no idea how popular the shades were going to be and the girls loved them!

So here comes a fall styling tip from me to you:
Incorporating past trends with modern fashion is the way to go. If you look at all the trends that are coming down the runways for Fall it is the archives of the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s. So do not be afraid to add a little “retro” to your style. Grab some cat-eye sunglasses, a flowy top and a satchel bag and you are ready! The great thing about these trends is they are easy to find! Whether it is your local boutique, department store or vintage shop- everyone is on board with the “old”- and who says we can’t make it new again?

Fall Frenzy

and so it begins …

bcbgeneration#1

As my internship with BCBGeneration approaches, I am currently gathering ideas for some of my favorite fall trends to incorporate in my closet this semester. I want to be able to express the modern, creative aspects that follow BCBGeneration- considering I will be representing this amazing brand on ASU campus and around social events.

I can hardly wait to begin this awesome journey with one of my great friends, Hillary Comstock. We have the pleasure of marketing this brand to all of the Arizona fashionistas out there who are looking for a trendy way to spice up their style.

Hillary and I sat down to research some of our favorite new fall essentials that we will be wearing. You absolutely can not go wrong with some of the items we have chosen above. Yes, the one-shoulder dress has been done before, but this option brings new light to the dress with its graphic print and tight fit. Pair this dress with some amazing booties and you could be sitting front row at any fashion week, whether you find yourself in Arizona, LA or New York.

I can’t wait to update everyone on my adventures this semester with my internship! Stay tuned to see the latest in fashion, local events, stories and much more!

What will my fashion loving readers be wearing for fall?

xoxo
